Abstract This study seeks to discover possible solutions to improve living and working conditions for migrant workers in Qatar. It will focus on the migrants in the construction industry. We use qualitative method as our methodological foundation, consisting of our own prepared elite interviews. They will be used as empirical research, supporting our analysis. The theory, involving Karl Marx and Guy Standing, will also reinforce our study, strengthening the results we achieve. They will support us in defining the migrant workers as a class and understanding the continued maintenance of the kafala system. Our analysis will investigate how Qatar is preserving the kafala system due to fear and economic reasons. Afterwards it will conclude that the rights of the migrant workers in Qatar are not being complied. Next we will analyze the kafala system compared to the international labor market, focusing on the Danish market. Here we will conclude that the migrant workers do not have the same conditions as related to Danish workers. Lastly we will investigate who is responsible for improving the conditions of the migrant workers. It will determine that the state of Qatar has the formal responsibility, but that the international community, especially FIFA, should undertake an informal responsibility. The discussion will consider three main solutions to improve the conditions of the migrant workers. The study will conclude that the most suitable solution will be an international pressure on Qatar.
