This study is based on the increasing tendency to focus on the social vulnerable and the wish for improving their health situation. This is done by trying to prevent the negative aspects of social heritage such as violence, crime etc. The focus of the study is young people who are in danger of engaging in criminal activities. Through our research we came across the initiative “Idrætsprojektet” which works by promoting health and preventing crime among young people. We contacted the initiative and were allowed to interview two of its participants. One have a role of mentoring other young people. The theoretical basis of this study is the theory of “Sense Of Coherence” by the sociologist Aaron Antonovsky. With the use of this theory we tried to find out how the initiative “Idrætsprojektet” according to the participants can be seen as a health promoting activity. We conducted quantitative interviews and later transcribed these in order to analyze the statements of the participants. The overall conclusion of this study is that the initiative develops and strengthens the participants “Sense Of Coherence” and therefore can be seen as a health promoting activity. The findings of the study suggest to us that health promoting activity has a meaningful function in the society why more initiatives of its kind are needed.
