This paper contains a study of online identity and behaviour on social media, in particular that of Fie Laursen and Gulddreng. The main objective of the project is to examine how blogging, Insta-gram and YouTube can be seen as a new way of creating an online identity. In an attempt to define this objective, this paper focuses on Joshua Meyrowitz’s, John Suler’s and Theresa Senft’s theories on the impact of electronic and social media on behaviour.
The blogposts and YouTube videos of Fie Laursen as well as some of the picture material from Gulddrengs Instagram account are analysed and selected theories applied. We will also include a documentary about the internet phenomenon Gulddreng and his two identities Malte and Gulddreng in this analysis.
Furthermore, a discussion of the celebrity culture that prevails today will be conducted.
The study concludes that acquiring celebrity status today is easier than it has ever been. Social me-dia has made a huge impact on society and is such an integral part of society that anyone can be-come famous through social media. Both Fie Laursen and Gulddreng encounter crises along the way, which the various forms of social media help them overcome.
