Abstrakt

This master thesis is analysing the papers of students on the Danish care-taking pedagogy education of University Collage Sjælland, trying to extract elements of criticism and critical reflections, as the students reflect on their experiences acquired in the broad institutional environment of public social care taking in Denmark. The thesis is taking into account the thoughts of Jürgen Habermas and his theoretical criticism on the development of modern society. By applying some of Habermas’ central definitions and concepts of society into the framework of the everyday caretaking life of the pedagogy institutions, as presented by the students as cases of interest and conflict, traces of social and pedagogy criticism, can be located. Reframed into a critical perspective on modern society and the terms by which modern care taking is taking place this can used in a survey of the conditions of modern society and the possibilities of articulating pedagogy and social criticism of the technical and instrumental system developments in society. Central definitions are the comparative and yet contradictive terms of system and lifeworld, their interactions, which, if uncontrolled, may result in colonisation and social dis-integration. Thereby destabilizing the social reproduction of the lifeworld, that is essential in the social framework of society and the everyday life in pedagogy institutions.
