This project examines grief as a phenomenon. Grief is an existential condition shared by all humans. Through three chapters this project seeks to uncover not only what grief as a phenomenon entails but also what bereaved people can do to handle grief in a good or better way. To examine that further I have interviewed people in grief to get to understand their experiences and understanding of grief. I have also included my own experiences and several professional treatment providers and theorists’ definition of grief. In the near future a complicated grief diagnosis can be a prospective way to handle grief. I find it relevant to discuss this diagnosis and what it entails as it implicates us all. I use my own, the interviewed and the professional treatment providers and theorists’ opinion about the diagnosis as the foundation for my discussion. A discussion which concerns different ways of handling grief. From my analysis I can conclude that one key aspect on how to handle grief in a more rewarding/fruitful way is communication. It is key that the bereaved people can talk about and share their grief with others, not only with other mourners but with all of us. Some also handle their grief by reading books while others find comfort through professional help. I can also conclude that time is very an important factor in grief. You cannot rush grief or make it go away. It takes time.
