The focus of the study has been on the social enterprise INSP!, which is located in Roskilde. The project aims to unveil the individuals at INSP!’s possibilities of becoming empowered within the boundaries of the enterprise. In the beginning of our research we had a meeting with Anni Ehlers, the manager at INSP!. She told us about INSP! and how there does not exist an actual guide of how to become empowered at INSP!; nor does there exist rules concerning the decision-making-processes at INSP! - this we found intriguing. Our theory of science is phenomenology, which has lead us to focus on the life worlds of the individuals at this specific enterprise. We have gathered empirical data in the form of observations and qualitative interviews with eight individuals who had different connections to INSP!. Of the people we interviewed, three of them were volunteers at INSP!, two were employees, two members of the society of INSP! and two of our informants were users of INSP! on a regular basis. This data was then analyzed by use of our theories; these include theories from John Andersen, concerning empowerment, and Pierre Bourdieu, regarding forms of capital, such as the social, the cultural and the economic. The conclusion was that several of our informants find that INSP! is an inclusive place, where it is possible for the individual to become empowered. However, we also found that the informants, who claimed this, were the socioeconomically advantaged users of the enterprise, that could actively participate in the decision-making at INSP!. The informants that were socioeconomically disadvantaged could not obtain the level of empowerment that they had hoped for.
