The following paper revolves around the electric car and its implementation into society. This will be examined from a socio-technical perspective, in which barriers and possibilities it currently faces, will be identified. A projection of future steps required in the implementation of the electric car, will be uncovered via a particular mixture of technological forecasting and roadmapping. In order to establish a proper foundation on which to analyse this issue, two expert interviews have been conducted. Critical barriers have been identified in the techno- logical, political and market/user regimes. This paper pinpoints some possible solutions and activities needed to overcome these barriers - in order to pave the way for the electric car to become a viable option in regards to private transportation.
If the electric car is to gain any momentum, some changes in the aforementioned regimes is identified as a necessity. In particular lack of political favor, lack of economic incentive and technological limitations, must be addressed.
