Studenteropgave: Semesterprojekt

This project offers a glimpse into the future, and of as well the ethical dilemmas that modern technology may bring with it. To be more specific, if focuses on the future regarding our human potential. With the phrase "human enhancement" we confine ourselves into a niche of science devoted to enhance our current human abilities to become more excellent in every extent of the word. Striving to maximize our potential through a variety of means, allowed by new technologies, the human species might soon no longer best be described as homo sapiens, but rather as something like techno sapiens. The result may be a heightened physique or an overwhelming mental capacity. Who knows, it could even give us the ability to pre-design or sculpture human beings when they are nothing more than an early state fetus. As we delve into the void of uncertainty in regards to what the future of science holds for us, we discover that enhancing our capabilities make way for new and countless, ethical dilemmas. Through an analysis of various theorists’ different views on the matter, we bring forth a discussion concerned with the issue at hand. The evidence necessary to ease the concerned mind, are lacking. The anxiety about losing the foundation that makes us human, through the use of human enhancement however is extensive. The concern that human enhancement might be too powerful a tool, and that we as humans simply cannot comprehend and fully understand the consequences it might cause, seems to be generalized. Therefore we conclude that human enhancement, if tackled wrongly or with anything but the best of intentions, might leave the human race obsolete rather than leading us to the pinnacle of the world, as we know it today.
