Abstrakt

This thesis treats the planning for the coming new university hospital in Odense (Nyt OUH). The aim was to explore how Helende Arkitektur, in English - Healing Architecture is used in the planning of the architecture in the hospital. The concept is designed as a report containing recommendations on the organizational and architectural part of the hospital building. In addition, the aim was to examine the impact that application of Healing Architecture has for health promotion. The study bases on empirical data and theory. One of the developers on Nyt OUH was interviewed about planning of the hospital, and the thesis was based on some of the documents, the planners of the future hospital, have published on the website, nytouh.dk. Theoretically the thesis is about health and hospital construction. The study showed that Healing Architecture is included in the planning of the architecture of the future hospital and different planners use it in varying extent. The ideology behind Healing Architecture is in some respects consistent with health promotion and the fact that there is awareness and acceptance of the concept is good for the dissemination of health promotion at the coming hospital. The informant who commented on the use of Healing Architecture, proved to be dealing mostly with the concept and she has created a document, available on the website for the hospital regarding to the implementation of the recommendations of the report at Nyt OUH all alone. Her interest in healing architecture may be relate to her that previously having worked with health promotion herself.
