This project report elaborates on the role of Hitler-refugees in the denazification of German refugees in Danish refugee camps in the years 1945-1949. This is done by exploring the phenomenon through a three step analysis. First the text focuses on how the Hitler-refugees were associated with the work of denazifying the German refugees in the Danish camps, an association characterised by the newspaper Deutsche Nachrichten and The German Anti-nazistic Organizations Refugee committee (TAOF). The text then looks at how the Hitler-refugees contributed to the denazification process by launching concrete activities through the above two mentioned channels. This implies explaining how Deutsche Nachrichten was used to reframe Nazism as wrong, whilst attempting to introduce the German refugees to democratic principles. In addition it was found that the Hitler-refugees helped realise various denazification activities in the refugee camps, such as lectures, study groups, and theatre groups. Finally the more overall role of the Hitler-refugees is elaborated by looking into their place in the overall denazification process in Denmark as related to the Danish refugee administration office. This meant seeing how Hitler-refugees functioned as not only entrepreneurs and a source of inspiration, but also was deemed as providing a relevant knowledge base, whilst furthermore constituting a contact interface between the German refugees and the Danish refugee administration office.
