This paper investigates in the use of history and how a newborn state uses the history to justify its political actions. The founder of Israel David Ben-Gurion and his period (1948-1963) as prime minister will be the foundation of this project. Therefore, Ben-Gurion’s speeches and estimations will be used to exemplify/illustrate how history can be used to defend the establishment of a newborn state, and how it can be used to justify political manifestation/actions. Furthermore, this assignment will show how Ben-Gurion’s use of history has developed over time. Based on the analysis and discussion, it becomes apparent that the state of Israel has used Holocaust in political context to justify some of their political actions. However, it is not possible in our case, to prove that David Ben-Gurion has achieved political goals by using it. Due to the discussion, there are strong indications that it is not only David Ben-Gurion who has been using Holocaust to legitimize political actions. Due to the results of this investigation, it is found particularly interesting to examine whether the Holocaust generally among the Israeli politicians has been used as a rhetorical weapon.
