Studenteropgave: Bachelorprojekt

This project examines how course participants construct their life stories in correlation with the experiences with VUC Kbh Syd’s (an adult education center) new initiative “uni-linjen”. Uni-linjen is a Higher Preparatory Examination Course with a particular focus on preparing the course participants for university. In this project three life story interviews form the basis of the analysis. With the use of a narrative approach we explore how the course participants create themselves through the meeting with the education. Through the theories of Pierre Bourdieu and Ulrick Beck we investigate society’s influence on their life stories. With the use of Bourdieu we examine the influence of the course participants background and past on their lives and experiences with education. With Beck we explore how modern society limits their possibilities and forces them to create meaning with their lives. Through this investigation we found that the three course participants enjoy great success in the meeting with education. However, this success does not necessarily come from the Higher Preparatory Examination Course. We also conclude, that even though their background has an impact on their lives and life stories it does limit their possibilities in the education system. Finally, the project concludes that the Higher Preparatory Examination Course is a necessary institution because it gives them the opportunity to accomplish their goals in life.
