Studenteropgave: Basisprojekt

This project aims towards making a change in the mental models of ten students. Mental models as researched by Wash and the research of influencing people made by Borgida & Nisbett, opened up the idea of designing a demonstration that would attempt to change the students’ behaviour. With the use of a demonstration that imitates a potential hacker attack, the students were to be influenced by the dangers that could occur on an open wifi. A key point of the demonstration, was to physically show the students, and thereby have a better effect towards a change in their behaviour on an open wifi. The potential hacker attack that the demonstration showed, was a method called a man-in-the-middle attack. Using this method, the hacker is able to infiltrate an open wifi, and access all information that is being transferred through the network. In order to gather additional information about a change in the mental models, the group designed two questionnaires. One handed out to the students before the demonstration, and the other after. With the information collected from the questionnaires, an analysis of a change in the mental models were formed. This analysis answers how the demonstration had an influence, on the students’ continued use of an open wifi.
