Abstrakt

During the last decades, right-wing populist parties have emerged in Western Europe, and a lot of them with similar characteristics. The populist parties showed a different and radical way of conducting politics that stirred up the established parties and the population. During the nineties, right-wing populism has become more established and persistent, which has led to the question: What is the right-wing populism we see today? And how shall we relate to the changes, lead on by the populist parties we see in politics and Society? This project tries to illustrate what kind of changes and currents in Society, has defined right-wing populism, as we know it. It also examines whether it can be explained, why right-wing populism over the years has become widespread and part and parcel of the political scene in Scandinavia. This is done by using different selected political and sociological scientists, who all have done, and some still do, research on right-wing populism. The research shows, that the emergence and development of right-wing populism is a phenomenon with many aspects of causal explanations, and they are all tentative. There are a lot of dissimilarities between the three Scandinavian countries: they all have their own national history, and thereby their own history of right-wing populism. But a recurring result is that the development of the right-wing populist parties is caused by a series of coherent and interacting changes in Society, the population, the established- and the populist parties.
