Studenteropgave: Semesterprojekt

Abstrakt

In this project we have tested Hartmut Rosa’s assumption about the High Speed Society being totalitarian with focus on Denmark. This has been done partially by analyzing Hartmut Rosa’s book ’Alienation and Acceleration’ regarding his hypothesis about social acceleration, and additionally by using a critical approach to modern society. Furthermore, we have made use of empirical sources including statistics and articles, which we have analyzed through diverse theories from political science and sociology, and with a generally critical approach to the sources. To further assess whether High Speed Society can be seen as totalitarian, we have looked into the case of Andrea Hejlskov, the writer who tried to escape from modern society. We have reached the conclusion that high speed society in the West truly is totalitarian on many levels, and that in Denmark too we are subject to high speed society and its powers. Consequently, theoretically, High Speed Society can be characterized as totalitarian
