Studenteropgave: Semesterprojekt

This project concerns the development of the journalistic ideals and functions in Danish newspapers from 1884 untill today. This paper features a historical view on the development of newspapers in Denmark. The newspaper Politiken is used as subject for analysis and two sets of copies from each of the years 1884, 1905, 1930, 1962 and 2010 are chosen as empirical material. The analysis researches the chosen newspapers’s layout, genres and language. Furthermore they are analysed according to the American professor Michael Schudson’s ideals of the press and Egil Andersen et.al.’s four press functions. The paper also focuses on the development from Meningspresse through Partipresse to Omnibuspresse. It is concluded that the press functions are varying in appearance and absence in the different years subject to analysis. Concerning Schudson, it is clear that the newspapers manages to meet his ideals with an increasingly amount of success, the closer we get to the present day.
