This paper examines the role played by news media in a global age compared to the global civil society. Furthermore, it investigates the globality of news in terms of a global journalistic practice-global journalism, additionality it discusses the implicates thereof. This is done so by the use of the qualitative approach, through the methods of discourse analysis and the semi-structured interview. The study was conducted within the framework of the social constructivist theory.
The project concludes that the framework for a more global news practice is not quite in place yet, as the nation-state still possess the role as the central unit in the international system. However, there are certain tendencies, which points towards the development of global journalism. The study further showed that media can broaden our understanding of the world, by presenting alternative discourse. Thus, creating a more nuanced picture of the world, which can be of importance when it comes the GCS as public deliberation is the focal point thereof.
