This paper examines modern art as perceived by french philosopher Gilles Deleuze. Our main-theory in this exploration will be Deleuze’s book Francis Bacon. The Logic of Sensation, which analyzes and discusses modern paintings made by Francis Bacon. In the further understanding of Deleuze’s modern art concept, we draw a historic and philosophically framework leading up to Deleuze. This frame will primarily study the german philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche and swiss-german painter Paul Klee’s understanding of modern aesthetics. Based on this contextual overview and the inclusion of Nietzsche and Klee, we will analyze and discuss the modern painting in the terminology of Deleuze.
