Genetisk screening for autism

Studenteropgave: Fagmodulprojekt

This study presents a literature study of meticulously chosen articles based on the subject of autism, more specifically ‘’Genetic screening of autism’’. Autism is an illness affecting many people and relatives. It is a broad-spectrum disease with the main categories: infantile autism, Asperger, GUA (gennemgribende, udviklingsforstyrrelse andet), atypical autism and GUU (gennemgribende udviklingsforstyrrelse uspecificeret). Autism are being screened in different ways. In the hospital, especially FISH and CGH-arrays are being used. My paper attempts to analyze whether screenings like CGH-array and FISH should be offered to all autistic children, or if it would be an idea to choose a specific group. Studies shows different results in genetics links between cognitive disorders and autism, which leads to a discussion of advantages and disadvantages of screening all.
