This thesis aims to investigate how reconstruction of urban streams can respond to periodic flooding in Copenhagen caused by extreme precipitation due to climate change. This will be based on a proposal by the environmental organization Miljøpunkt Nørrebro about daylighting the Ladegårdså in northern Copenhagen, which has been buried in pipes below the ground surface for ages. The thesis will deal with the holistic potentials, which lies within the project, concerning social, economic and environmental side benefits for Copenhagen and its citizens. Using Frank W. Geels conceptual framework on socio-technical systems we approach the reconstruction of the Ladegårdså as a niche that is met by several potential barriers expressed by existing technical systems, perceptions etc. Using GIS, expert interviews, hydrology, urban planning and theoretical work on Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems and Urban Blue Corridors, there will be an assessment of the projects chances of being implemented.
