This project addresses the two danish illegal papers Frit Danmark and De frie Danske in the period August 1943 to May 1945 under the German occupation of Denmark. The project examines the moral and ideological assumptions expressed explicit and implicit in the papers and furthermore identifies some dilemmas. As an underlying methodological inspiration the project apply elements of hermeneutic interpretation. The moral and ideological assumptions are structured around four main themes and the project concludes that both parallel and diverse ideological and moral assumptions can be identified in Frit Danmark and De frie Danske. The conclusion highlights the emphasis on the ideological struggle of the resistance movement, the stressing of the active act, radicalization of the concept of the enemy, and the demand for a comprehensive showdown in the postwar period. In addition these assumptions call attention to several striking dilemmas regarding democratic ideals and principles, representation, use of force and political positioning.
