The following report addresses the issue regarding unsustainable managing of plastic waste on a global scale. Through a case presentation of the indonesian island Bali; the report examines a circular recycling method of plastic called pyrolysis and its sustainable potential covered in three aspects; environment, social and economic sustainability.Based on the hermeneutic scientific theory it is assumed that plastic waste is an issue on Bali. And an issue that can be solved with the help of technology. The examination of the issue is grounded in a case-presentation of Bali, a technical description of the pyrolysis-process and theoretical approaches via circular economic principles, logical framework analysis and actor-network theory. Conclusively a suggested solution is presented, analysed and discussed. The authors conclude, based on the problem statement, that: The pyrolysis plant is regarded more sustainable than not. It is further concluded that it is indeed possible to implement the technology - with the exceptions that considerable challenges presents themselves regarding societal problems, the amount of waste and a certain environmental congestion.
