#This project consists of a historiographic analysis of the works of four historians about the regulation of prostitution in nineteenth century Great Britain. The works are written from 1980 to 2003, and the historiography offers a review of the development in this field of research over the last 25 years. This analysis especially focuses on the theoretical approaches of the historians, it reveals a tendency towards constructionist theory and shows the effects of this upon the researchers views on history. Michel Foucault's thesis about sexuality plays an important role in the shaping of the research in this field, because it deals with both sexuality, power and control. The terms discourse, ideology and gender are key words throughout the four works.
