This study examines the portraying of Africa which is formed by the campaigns from the aid agencies, and what Danes view on emergency aid to Africa is. It takes both a qualitative and quantitative approach on the research statement. The qualitative approach is based on an interview with the head of communication from the international aid agency Røde Kors. The quantitative approach is based on a questionnaire which examines the picture of Africa amongst the Danish people and their habits of donation especially towards Africa. This study is written in the dimensions Culture & History and Text & Sign. Theories by Niels Møller Jensen and Ernesto Laclau and Chantal Mouffe has been used for the analysis of two chosen campaigns and for the identification of the Danish discourse on the picture of Africa. Furthermore, others theorists such as Ilan Kapoor, Daniel Västfjäll, Jan Pieterse and Gayatri Spivak have been included. Finally it is concluded that the portraying of Africa is quite undifferentiated, which have an influence on Danes view on emergency aid to Africa.
