This study investigates different ideas of the relation between freedom of speech and freedom of religion and how these perceptions effect the comprehension of how this relation should be, and furthermore whether a conflict lies in this matter. To understand these complicated terms a clarifica-tion of both freedom and rights is necessary. Through a clarification of concepts and a discussion of the different views of the theorists and de-baters in the project, along with an interpretation of both normative and historical arguments, the complexity of this debate will be formulated. It appears that a potential conflict will not occur be-tween the two rights, but between freedom of speech and religious feelings. In conclusion, the question of a possible conflict depends on the different comprehensions of the concepts of freedom and rights. The perceptions depend on many different elements, which indicate that the approach can never be fully objective regarding the normative discussion on the relation between freedom of speech and freedom of religion.
