Studenteropgave: Basisprojekt

This paper investigates the conception of the ideal relationship using discourse analysis determining
the existing discourses. Furthermore, it discusses the discourses found and shines a light on both what
is positive and negative about them. The discourses surrounding the idea of the ideal relationships
are found and analyzed in the British television show Naked Attraction and the Facebook page Love
Quotes and Sayings. It uses Norman Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis and draws inspiration
from his three-dimensional model to reveal what underlying discourses are present concerning the
ideal relationship. The project emerged from an interest in explaining why it seems we all are making
the same mistakes by having a predetermined perception of how our ideal partner is supposed to be.
In conclusion the project ended up discovering that we are in fact all under the effects of a discourse
concerning the ideal relationship which stems from a core theme in the Romantic period. The consequences
of this discourse is discussed in the end of the paper but not entirely conclusive since there
is not just one answer. This resulted in the project being a tool of enlightenment for people interested
in why they are thinking the way they do about the idea of an ideal relationship.
