The following paper revolves around an evaluation of electronic monitoring as an alternative to traditional imprisonment in Denmark. We discuss the use of this solution by illuminating the most important advantages and objections regarding this subject. We present theory regarding utilitarianism and retributive justice, as we identify them as being the central theories influencing the Danish justice system. Furthermore we give insight regarding the technical elements, as well as the practical measures associated with the device and the system. With the theoretic insight and the technical knowledge, we will analyze the main arguments in a way that clarifies their philosophical roots as well as enable us to present nuanced criticisms of the respective arguments. We clarify and present some of the most important facts and points of view to take into consideration when implementing the technology, thus enabling the reader and ourselves to make an educated evaluation by the end of the paper.
