Studenteropgave: Semesterprojekt

In this day in age, as the financial and economic structures of the world are being heavily debated, and the EU-memberstates are trying to recover from the latest financial crisis, it would seem that now is the time for regulatory measures to be enforced. The report at your current disposal, investigate the reform of the financial sector, Regulating Financial Services for Sustainable Growth, currently underway in the EU. Through a comprehensive reading of the different regulatory proposals and informed by some of the top experts in the field of economics, the report examines the reach and depth of the reform and gives an insightful understanding of the consequences it entails. The reports findings includes that the aim of the reform is to strenghten harmonization within the EU-area, stabilizing the financial sector and creating sustainable growth. Unfortunately the reform has several shortcomings, whereas some of the more notable is that it offers no concrete answers to the problems of Corporate Governance and that the independence of the regulating authorities is not properly guaranteed. The report concludes by noting that the reform does not seek to rebel with the basis of the financial structure, even though it is viewed as one of the key reasons for the financial crisis of 2008. Rather it seeks to stabilize and strengthen it.
