This thesis uses focus group and individual interview to investigate how a group of Filipino young women immigrants understand and interpret the cultural encounter going on between them and the citizens of Denmark. The research is on this category of immigrants who are studying and working in Denmark. Kvale Steiner and Brickmann, Svend (2008) book, Interviews; learning the craft of qualitative research interviewing has been used as a guide for the interviews, and complemented by Bloor et al, (2001), Focus group in social research; Introducing Qualitative method. Theories employed in this project are those of, Stuart Hall, Richard Jenkins, Gerd Baumann, and psychological theories from Turner and Tajfel . These theories help to explain the concept of identity, and how it is played out in the relationship between people. The analysis is built on context, using the aforementioned theories as the structure. The thesis concludes by summarizing the salient points raised when analyzing the narratives of the participants interviewed with discussions on how to improve the cultural encounter between immigrants and the citizens of Denmark.
