The purpose of this project is to study the journalistic qualities on internet (web) media. The main research is based on the Danish news sites, DR.dk and Ekstrabladet.dk, and their media coverage of the increasing number of Syrian refugees crossing the Danish border the beginning of September 2015. 39 articles from the two news sites are analysed with the use of quantitative and qualitative methods. The project is measuring the qualities in the media coverage by looking into the use of sources, facts and linguistic errors in the quantitative analysis. The qualitative analysis includes an interpretation of the frames and news criteria, used in the chosen articles. The results of the analysis along with stated theories from relevant literature, leads to a discussion of how, the journalistic qualities in internet media are deteriorated. The increased competition on the internet media and speed of publishing along with the use of the sensation criteria and one-dimensioned framing, are concluded as some of the most significant reasons for the deterioration of the journalistic qualities. This project therefore shows a structural change of news as a genre.
