The purpose with this project is to understand how people use of the phenomenon “1. maj i Fælledparken” in Copenhagen. Based on a phenomenological view we will collect empirical data by observations and interviews. With this data we clarify that people use the phenomenon to discuss and to seek entertainment. The place Fælledparken can be understood as a public space and with this perspective we will comprehend the purpose of this phenomenon. Based on the theoretical reflections of Habermas we will assess how the phenomenon can be a token of a greater societal tendency where we today use the public space to consume culture, as opposite to before where we used the culture to reason. All in all the use of the phenomenon is a concrete token of a greater societal tendency where you use the public space for entertainment and not education.
