Project title: The Common Agricultural Policy of the European Union This project investigates the following research question: How can The Common Agricultural Policy of the European Union correct market faults and what are the barriers to reform the CAP? The project concludes that agriculture is subject to some special market conditions, which complicates earnings for farming. Therefore, politicians chose to introduce subsidies to counteract these condi-tions. Compared to the Danish Authority of Competition’s criteria for the use of subsidies, it is con-cluded that agricultural subsidies in the EU is not organized properly, since the use of subsidies does not comply with the criteria. The project furthermore investigates the possibility of reforming agricultural subsidies, which concludes that the EU decision-making is characterized by institutional friction and incrementalism. It furthermore concludes that the decision-making process, create barriers to reforming the health check in 2008, where particularly the approach of incrementalism of the Council of Ministers formed barriers.
