The goal of this study is to showcase the insulation materials, stone wool and wood fiber, from a sustainability perspective which leads to an analysis where we try to answer which type of insulation is the more sustainable option seen from a holistic perspective. Furthermore, the study will enlighten the reader on the differences between stone wool insulation and wood fiber insulation as well as providing the pros and cons of both insulation materials. The study will draw upon the sustainable building certification DGNB (Deutsches Gütesiegel Nachhal- tiges Bauen) as well as the circular economy and Frank W. Geel’s theory of the multi-level per- spective on sustainability transitions.
