Studenteropgave: Fagmodulprojekt

This project thesis finds inspiration in contemporary discourse around migration and more specifi- cally in the work of a research project on migration at Roskilde University, EMIDEKS. The aim is to examine emotions connected with migration and to research an alternative frame of conveying these feelings to both academic and non-academic audiences. Accordingly of the academic culture of Per- formance Design, within which the project places itself, we have chosen creative methods to explore questions and possibilities around the communication of feelings. Furthermore, the projects meth- odological stance is based on Arts-based research and so does comprehend the understanding that any knowledge or conclusions, this project claims to have attained, are partial and situated. Moreo- ver, this thesis includes a detailed account of the design process and final presentation of an audio- visual installation, that aimed at conveying some general experiences migrants undergo with special emphasis on emotions. Afterwards it explores theoretical approaches such as atmosphere, liveness and transformation by placing them in the context of the installation, analysing the means by which it impacts and interacts with its audience. Finally, a discussion about knowledge creation, evaluation and the Arts is employed after which it is concluded, that the performance created was able to both convey and evoke emotions in an audience.
