Studenteropgave: Kandidatprojekt

This project will search for an answer as to how the cult around Thomas Becket arose and how the sources, which wrote about him, portrayed him. After a visit to Canterbury Cathedral it is still obvious that Becket plays a central role in the church and is still being used to tell the story of a martyr who died for the freedom of the church. What this project wishes to show is how the recollection regarding Becket has been created. The project will give an analysis of how the various sources portrayed Becket. The study will not focus on the validity of the information from the sources, but instead on the portrayal of Becket. Furthermore, there will be a discussion on how the sources thereby played a role in the creation of the cult around Becket in regards to a collective memory.
