This paper will seek to look into the problems regarding loneliness among young people and discuss if the social media have an influence on the subject. We investigated what creates loneliness and if there is a growing problem. We aim to use the collected knowledge to create an artifact or process that can reduce the impact of loneliness. We choose to use the survey “Ensomhed I befolkningen”, by Mathias Lasgaard & Karina Friis in 2015, as the quantitative base of our paper, to give an idea of how big the problem is in Denmark. Instead, we focus on getting some quality input and feedback from a class of 3rd year gymnasium students, who we use as our focus group, and a volunteer working with people suffering from loneliness. We mostly base this paper on the theories of Lars Fr. H. Svendsen and Sherry Turkle, but we also use John T. Cacioppos. We are aiming to use the Soft Design Science Methodology approach to this assignment, together with a deductive approach to knowledge gathering. We conclude that it is of most importance to create a public focus on loneliness and its issues, and to remove the tabu that surround it. We also want to create a platform where people can find activities and meet others, as we find interconnection and friendships are keywords.
