The purpose of the following report has been to investigate how young children feel in their early years of public school. This has been explored through phenomenological observation studies inspired by Simonetta Adamo and Margaret Rustin’s Young Child Observation and Daniel Stern’s Forms of Vitality. Furthermore, the findings have been discussed in relation to contemporary society and the school’s organizational structures. The impact of the society and the school’s organizational structures on how children feel, has been argued through a theoretical framework consisting of theories on and discussions of how a society can affect how people feel based on works of Sigmund Freud, Erich Fromm, Herbert Marcuse, Carsten René Jørgensen, Thomas Ziehe, Hartmut Rosa and Anders Petersen. Through the analysis and discussion, we found that contemporary society and the school’s organizational structures can affect how children feel, and that this had a negative effect on the children.
