Studenteropgave: Speciale

This master thesis in Communication investigates the paradox in Danish charitable trusts supporting arts and culture steering towards increasing transparency while at the same time is being subject for increasing criticism on among other things the lack of transparency and for having an elitist view on art and culture which causes a “democratic deficit” in the Danish cultural politics. Many Danish charitable trust regards themselves as modern transparent trusts, but as non- transparent or “classic” trusts per definition does not want to participate in interviews with the news media it is the modern transparent trusts who is asked to answer to the criticism. In this master thesis a very critical series of articles in the Danish nationwide newspaper Politiken is subject to a critical discourse analysis with the purpose of identifying the prevailing discourses regarding Danish trusts. Through interviews with employees in fire medium sized Danish trusts it is being investigated which consequences this leads to and relevant focus areas for increased communication efforts is identified
