This paper examines the norms imbedded in the fact checks of the TV program Detektor as a form of critique through a deconstruction of the story the program tells of this critique. The deconstruction is based on a multimodal text analysis and a theoretical basic understanding of the concept of critique. The paper draws the conclusion that the fact check is based on norms of science as determining the truth of facts and of politics as something that should adhere to fact and science. Imbedded in these norms lies an understanding of science as having an objective access to reality – an understanding that ignores the fact that science also has a certain perspective on the world and our knowledge of it.
