This paper evaluates the university bar on Roskilde University called “Fredagsbaren”, in an attempt to establish a set of parameters and principles to ensure a bar that better meets the needs of the students. This paper looks into the structure and content of Fredagsbaren as well as two other university bars; Geobar and Café Nexus. An extensive amount of empirical data in regards of the students themselves is accounted for, to understand their needs and their experiences with the bar so far. Theory concerning Experience Economy, Event Management and Performance Design are used to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the three, as well as to help establish the final parameters. Theory on Human Needs and Motivation helps us to understand the students and their priorities. In conclusion it is important for the bar to clearly define its goals and ambitions, its audience and what kind of experience it wants to deliver. A theme is necessary to support and frame the experience for the students. The bar needs to be an unique event that offers stable framework for a good experience, while facilitating self-realization and fun for the students.
