Studenteropgave: Semesterprojekt

Dronning Louises Bro is a bridge crossing “the lakes” which connects Nørrebro and the central city in Copenhagen. A place, commonly known amongst people in Copenhagen. The bridge operates as a transit space for bicyclists and busses, but has through the years developed and grown as a place, and space where people gather and interact with each other. Especially during the summer, where you will find people drinking beer, eating take-away, listening to music and other sorts of social activities, since the bridge’s space is designed for preservation. Otherwise, during the winter, where months are colder and darker, the social activity which we experience during the summer, disappears and the bridge is no longer a social space. Therefore the bridge transforms into mainly working as a practical purpose, of being a way of passage in the center of the city. As a result of this, the bridge loses identity, and transforms itself into something practical, that doesn’t allow the same type of activity, as it does during the summer. We believe, that the space on the bridge, which is meant for preservation, lacks an artefact which could help re-create and develop the identity of the bridge during the winter. Though this should not be a substitution nor a reconstruction of the identity presented on the bridge during the summer. To achieve this, we would like to add the possibility of having an aesthetic experience on the bridge, during the winter. The latter, is created and based upon theory about aesthetic properties, aesthetic experience, light, colours, experiences and loose space, including places and non-places. We strive upon certain aesthetic properties that we wish to express in the design, when developing the different design solutions. This is primarily reflected in the use of theory about lighting and colour. We base our different design solutions upon a mindmap, presented in the design process. Further in this process, we decide on a final design, which we continue working with in developing a prototype, to assess different aspects of the design, which are to be included in the reflections about the final design solution. When analysing the design, we can conclude that it will give the users of Dronning Louises Bro the opportunity of obtaining an aesthetic experience.
