A ‘modtagelsesklasse’ is characterized by diversity, with students from all around the world with each their own prerequisites. This project therefore tries to illustrate the significance communication’s form in teaching has on four selected student’s opportunities and limitations for participation in a ‘modtagelsesklasse’. The students were observed for three days, followed by a semi-structured interview. Basil Bernstein’s concept of pedagogical framing and Jean Lave & Etienne Wenger as well as Ole dreier’s understanding of situated learning were utilized as the analytic apparatus. It resulted that the elaborated codes in this modtagelsesklasse had elements from both transparent and not transparent pedagogies which created opportunities and limitations for the students participation. Yet they still desired a more transparent pedagogy because of their experiences with their previous schools.
