The purpose of this research is to identify the barriers associated with the recycling of critical raw materials from waste of electric and electronic equipment (WEEE) in Denmark. The report takes its point of departure in the idea that the future supply of critical raw materials can be secured through recycling, and furthermore, that this recycling is not taking place in Denmark today. The first aim of the report is to identify and outline the relevant actors. Secondly this report then attempts to identify barriers, which are holding back the implementation of this recycling. This identification of barriers is made through interviews with three recycling companies operating in Denmark, these being: Stena Technoworld, H.J. Hansen and Averhoff A/S. The empirical findings made through these interviews are then discussed in relation to a selection of theories concerning innovation. This is done in an attempt to illuminate possible underlying causes and connections of the identified barriers. The main results relate to economic difficulties and industry structures, politics on the area of recycling, technical difficulties and the lack of knowledge sharing.
