Studenteropgave: Semesterprojekt

On the basis of Anthony Giddens’ analysis of the post modern society, and Ernst Schraubes critical psychological argumentation that technology should be analysed from the individuals subjective point of view. This paper provides an understanding of the factors that influences the individuals use of electricity. The purpose of the paper is to analyse what can effectively influence the consumer, in order to make them use less electricity. By analysing a small group of consumers, we form a theoretical foundation of what electricity saving initiatives should take into account. In short our theoretical conclusions says that, what Giddens calls time and space should be closer connected, and that the subjective conditions towards technology can be taken into account, by designing the environment, so it invites the user to a specific use. We conclude that awareness and reflection on own electricity consumption is a decisive factor in order to make people use less electricity. We argue that no single initiative can lead the consumers to a smaller degree of electricity consumption. Only through at combined contribution of initiatives, all based on the theoretical foundation, from the analysis of the consumer, efficient electricity savings can be achieved.
