Abstrakt

Denne specialerapport er udarbejdet som afslutning på vores Datalogi uddannelse på RUC. Vi har valgt at arbejde med effektmåling af Elektronisk Patient Medicineringsmodulet (EPM). EPM er et elektronisk hjælpeværktøj til klinikere, som er taget i brug på de danske sygehuse efter indførsel af EPJ (Elektroniske Patient Journaler). Effektvurdering af det implementeret it-system EPM er baseret på vores foretagne spørgeskemaundersøgelser og NASA Task Load Index målingerne af arbejdsbelastning. Vi har fokus på klinikernes daglige medicineringsrutiner på jobbet med EPM, nemlig ordination, dispensering og administration af medicin til patienterne. Her har vi kunne påvise tendenser til formindskelse af medicineringsfejl, forøget kvalitet af medicineringsprocessen samt dets følger såsom ændringer i selve organisationen og en vis lettelse af klinikeres arbejdsgange i form af mindre arbejdsbelastning. This thesis is finalizing our Computer Science studies at the Roskilde University, where we present our research on efficiency of the Electronic Patient Medication module / “Elektronisk Patient Medicinering”(EPM), of the electronic patient record systems. EPM has been applied to all hospitals throughout Denmark and expected to reach all departments by the year 2008. EPM was implemented in Bispebjerg Hospital department I-14 in Fall 2006. We performed a questionnaire and a NASA Task Load Index - survey at their department I-14 in order to measure effect of this new IT system. Our aim is to measure the effects of EPM, and examine if it results in better medication process, containing fewer medication errors performed by clinicians, with increased ease at work using advanced information technology know-how. Clinicians are using the EPM on a daily basis to perform the routine of patient medication. The efficiency of EPM through effect analysis is measured and presented in this report. We focus upon user-experiences after “the implementation period”. Would this new IT system help in minimizing errors, thus providing the patients a better healthcare system in terms of medication, and facilitating clinicians with EPM to a better working condition? These are the questions we face and the results of our empirical analysis indicate positive steps in medical practice with EPM from 2006 to 2007. Clinicians exhibit a tendency of adopting EPM till certain limits. The results reflect a small decrease in mental workload in the process of ordination and dispensing drugs. Results of both measurements are not very promising regarding administration of medicine to patients. We assume it’s due to the fact that it is still too early to postulate success, because at in Fall 06 EPM was only in use for 2 months when effects were measured for this paper.
