This paper will reflect on the different ways in which people experience social media. It will deal with how a small group of RUC students create and project their own image social media sites, and unfold to what extent they sense a gap between the virtual and the physical world. It will look to unfold how these people relate to the images and narratives presented by friends and peers on the digital platforms and what sort of implications this brings. Our main research issue consists in unfolding some of the possible effects social media sites can have on its users. Through interviews and a theoretical framework of social psychology this paper will explain in what ways people may experience tensions and pressure through the different structural features of social media sites.
