Studenteropgave: Basisprojekt

This project examines the various ways post-modernity has deconstructed many traditional social structures and rearranged them in ways that allow self-identity to be globally influenced. ‘Doing gender’ in a world without scientific certainty, which is brimming with opportunities and apocalyp-tic threats, requires further sociological inquiry. Using the work of Anthony Giddens as a theoreti-cal framework, we believe that lifestyle-experts ‘de-complicate’ the world in several important ways. Furthermore, by analyzing the relationship between post-modernity and gender-performativity using the semiotic toolkit of Niels Heie and Dorte Marie Søndergaard, we elucidate how Danish lifestyle experts Mia Sommer and Thomas Rode are doing their respective gender through traditional feminine and masculine performances. In combination with the theoretical work of Jonatan Leer, this project attempts to pinpoint ways in which both gender and national cultural identity is connected to meat consumption.
