This project takes its point of departure in a context of globalized economy and an administrational and political shift towards neoliberalism and entrepreneurialism. In this environment cities become competitive not only on a national but also on a continental or even global scale. In case of Copenhagen, Hovedbanegården plays thereby a key role as a gateway and first impression to the city. Like Copenhagen has adopted new urban governance basing on public-private-partnership, so has the DSB, owning the central station building, developed through the time to a state-owned company on a for-profit basis. This can be seen as privatization within the DSB. In order to be attractive and economically efficient Hovedbanegården has to be increasingly controlled, which is done by changes in the architecture, the implementation of cameras and the increased amount of security staff.
