Studenteropgave: Semesterprojekt

The project is based on Michel Foucaults genealogy Discipline and Punish. Foucault depicts through Discipline and Punish the prominent discipline that occurs in the prison which led us to the development of our case study regarding the discipline in Møgelkær state prison. The project illustrates the history of the penitentiary from punishment of the body to the constitution of the open prison facility. This development is outlined in an archaeological methodology and seeks to clarify how the discontinuous historical epochs are characterized by a variety of truth perceptions. The statement led us to Møgelkær state prison, where we not only observe whether or not the disciplinary mechanisms are presence but also what new disciplinary mechanisms – also described as paradigm disciplinary mechanisms – that has arisen in Møgelkær state prison. This analysis of the disciplinary mechanisms is based on interviews of inmates and employees as well as our own observations during our fieldwork. The analysis brings us to the discussion of how the disciplinary mechanisms and the paradigm disciplinary mechanisms affect the creation of the disciplinary subject. Based on the analysis and the discussion the paper concludes that despite an off-disciplinary in a sense of Foucault, it does not create a less disciplinary subject but through the redefinition of the disciplinary practices creates a disciplinary subject – now through divergent practices.
