Studenteropgave: Speciale

This thesis examines different views on digital communication in nurseries in Denmark and asks pedagogues and parents about their attitudes toward this form of communication in the cooperation between the pedagogues and parents. The research question of this thesis is: Which discourses are being discursively constructed among pedagogues and parents in regards to digital communication in nurseries, how are these being articulated and why?
Through our analytical work, we found two main discourses that were articulated with different focuses among our interviewees. These main discourses are;
● The discourse of digitisation as an improvement
● The discourse of digitisation as an invasion.
In the discourse of digitisation as an improvement, both pedagogues and parents articulate different views on whether or not digital communication is easy. The interviewees also articulates different views on digital communication being a tool to free up resources from the pedagogues, where half of the interviewees expressed that they believed the digital communication to be time consuming. Few interviewees articulated that the digital communication could be a useful tool to visualise the professional competencies of the pedagogues.
In the discourse of digitisation as an invasion, both pedagogues and parents articulate many views on how digitisation may be an invasion. First and foremost the digital communication was articulated as a task being forced upon the pedagogues, however this view was articulated quite vaguely, as none of the interviewees could tell us who was responsible for forcing this task upon them.
The parents articulated joy about being able to see pictures and stories of their child’s day in the nursery, however none of them expressed that the task of communicating these to the parents was crucial for the pedagogues to do – especially not if working with the digital communication happens at the expense of time with the children.
As a conclusive remark, we found that the interviewees mainly talked themselves into the existing social practice, however we also found examples of the order of discourses being maintained and transformed in the articulations of our interviewees.
